Solidarity Wave has started from Babruisk

2

Babruisk activists of Belarusian Christian Democracy has started the nationwide campaign Solidarity Wave on 12 February. The campaign’s aim is to support the Belarusian political prisoners.

The activists of Young Christian Democrats, United Civic Party and the Trade Union of Radio and Electronic Industry also took part in the actions, the BChD’s press-service reports.

According to the coordinator of the BChD’s organizational committee for Mogilev region Taisija Kabanchuk, the activists disseminated hundreds of leaflets and posters with the information about the political prisoners through mail boxes of Babruisk residents and stuck the to the walls of buildings.

They also hang out two banners calling for the release of the political prisoners: one was placed at the Eloviki public transport stop, another one – at the entrance to the city. Apart from that, they had been giving out postcards to the city residents in the streets with calls to sign them and send to the political prisoners – a Babruisk resident, BChD activist Yauhen Vaskovich and human rights activist Ales Bialiatski, who is serving the punishment term in Babruisk. The city dwellers reacted differently, many of the did not want to communicate, told that they knew nothing about the political prisoners and only some of them found the courage to say several words of support. All these postcards have been sent to the political prisoners today.

Simultaneously democratic activists made two snowmen in Babruisk’s central square opposite the city executive committee, having painted them partly red and decorated with national flags. “Thus, even white-red-white snowmen expressed their solidarity”, - Taisija Kabanchuk noted.

We would remind that the marathon Solidarity Wave will embrace 37 cities of Belarus and will end with an action of the Freedom Day in Minsk on 25 March.
