Pavel Sapelka: I hope Autukhovich's term won't be extended

A lawyer of an imprisoned businessman doesn't think his client will be granted early release, but hopes Autukhovich's sentence will not be extended.

Pavel Sapelka recently received a letter from the political prisoner, Belsat TV reports.

The lawyer says there are no hopes for early release. If an inmate violates prison rules, he is usually transferred from a penal colony to a prison for three years or until the end of his term (as in case with Autukhovich). The political prisoner should have proved twice that he improved to be transferred back to the penal colony and then released.

However, there are grounds to suppose that Mikalai Autukhovich will not get a new prison term. If an inmate is transferred to a prison, the popular article 411 (repeated failure to obey orders of prison officers) can be applied to him only during a year. The year already passed, which means that Mikalai Autukhovich is expected to be released in April 2014.

The lawyer received previous letter from the political prisoner a month ago. He wrote he needed dentures. His problems with teeth also influence stomach and overall health that worsened after his hunger strikes. He needs consent of the prison authorities for dental prosthetic treatment and rehabilitation.

February 15 is the day of the end of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Mikalai Autukhovich was awarded with the Red Star Order and the medals For Courage and For Battle Merit for defence of the bridge in Kandahar.

Mikalai Autukhovich was imprisoned for exposing corruption among local officials. He has been in prison for more than 4 years.
