Political prisoner Malchanau denied early release on parole

Aliaksandr Malchanau will not be able to be released early from the colony in Navasady near Barysau.

The political prisoner told about that in a letter to a civic activist Tatsiana Kim, with whom he is in regular correspondence, Radio Svaboda reports.

“He wrote that he had recently been at a commission where he was denied early release on parole, since he had uncleared punishments for violations. Although, he added that he did not expect anything different”, - Tatsiana Kim said.

We would remind that on 2 March 2011 Aliaksandr Malchanau was sentenced to 3 year in high security prison by the court of Minsk’s Fruzne district. He served the term in the colony No 15 in Mahilou, from which he was released on 14 September 2011 on Lukashenka’s pardon among other political prisoners.

However, another criminal proceeding was initiated against Aliaksandr soon. In November 2011 he was arrested in Barysau for the second time and put into custody. This time the oppositionist was accused of stealing scrap metal. Aliaksandr could not find a job since they would not hire him anywhere after a political trial and he made for living for himself and his pensioner parents by collecting scrap metal. He says that the city residents normally went for waste products to the unguarded territory of a local plant. He was sentenced to a year and six month in high security colony on 9 April 2012.
