Hajdukou’s trial will be secretive

Court proceedings on Andrej Hajdukou’s case, who has been accused of state treason, will be held behind closed doors.

The chairman of Belarus’ KGB Valer Vakulchyk told that to journalists on Thursday in Minsk when responding to Interfax-Zapad news agency’s question.

“It will absolutely be secretive”, - Vakulchyk said.

At the same time he noted: “I think that after the verdict is announced, the people, who protected him will find themselves in an awkward position”. “He did not manage to commit the crime, was exposed in due time, but it is classics, as we say, everything was done flawlessly”, - the head of KGB said.

Vakulchyk also specified that the charges, pressed against Hajdukou, have not been changed.

We would remind that Hajdukou’s criminal case materials have been sent to Viciebsk regional caourt.

According to the official information, Andrej Hajdukou was detained “when he was putting information of interest for foreign special services in a hiding place”. This accusation is considered absurd by many. The European Belarus civic campaign put forward a statement saying that the activist had been detained for disseminating Charter’97 newspapers.

Human rights activists link the persecution of Hajdukou to his oppositional views and explain it as an attempt to intimidate youth activists.
