Lukashenko thanked Vatican for the establishment of relations with the EU

Belarusian dictator thanked Vatican for its assistance in improving relations with the European Union and has invited the Pope to Belarus.

On Tuesday, Alyaksandr Lukashenka held a meeting with the Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti in Minsk.

"I just have to thank you for a good attitude to Belarus, I am grateful to the Catholic Church, to Vatican for the support that you provide to us at the international arena, especially in the organization of establishing relations with the European Union. It doesn’t matter whether there will be any results or not. I know you really want this," Interfax-West quotes Lukashenka as he says.

Lukashenka has noted that "the Catholic Church pursues a very good policy," promised that he will do "everything possible ... maybe even impossible" for this second-large denomination in Belarus.

The President also asked the Archbishop to tell "some top officials in Vatican", "wanting to visit Belarus," that they are absolutely welcome to our country.
