Doctor Ihar Pastnou from Vitebsk was transferred from an inpatient unit at the psychiatric hospital to a day patient unit.
“I haven't been released absolutely, I has been moved to a day patient unit. So, it is a 'parole release'. The main thing is that psychiatric treatment has ended. I was oppressed by psychoactive drugs,” Ihar Pastnou told BelaPAN.
A pediatrician from Vitebsk was taken to psychiatric hospital after posting a video appeal on the internet. He criticised the state of the healthcare sector in Vitebsk, mandatory alcohol treatment and said he had been threatened with compulsory psychiatric treatment. Pastnou was taken to hospital from work on August 16.
On August 29, Amnesty International said it was ready to declare him a prisoner of conscience. “Igor Postnov (Ihar Pastnou ) may have been arbitrarily detained because of his legitimate criticism of the health care system in the Vitebsk region; if so Amnesty International would consider him a prisoner of conscience,” the statement said.
