Work in progress to remove border inspections for Minsk-Kyiv train

Inspections at the border may become a thing of the past for the Minsk-Kyiv train.

The information was released by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Belarus Mikhail Yezhel as he met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Rubinov on 25 September.

The Ambassador said that work is in progress to scrap inspections at the border. Speaking about the overall state of Belarusian-Ukrainian relations, Mikhail Yezhel remarked that they develop rapidly and the trend should be backed. “It is time to double the trade and economic relations, including via joint manufacturing projects,” said the diplomat and mentioned agricultural mechanical engineering and rail carriage construction among the most appealing areas.

In 2012 Belarus-Ukraine trade was close to $8 billion. Anatoly Rubinov believes that the figure is below the potential of the bilateral relations. “Plans should be made in order for everyone to feel committed. It can be done via joint enterprises or other forms of interaction. This way seems to be the most productive one,” he said.

The Speaker of the upper chamber of the Belarus parliament noted that Belarus-Ukraine relations advance in a favorable political environment. Anatoly Rubinov reminded about the visit of the Belarus president to Ukraine when a number of important documents were signed, including those relevant for the demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
