Makei begs to lift sanctions

Sanctions against such countries as Belarus and Cuba, which seek to build a strong state, are unacceptable.

The statement was made by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei during a general debate at the UN General Assembly, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

Vladimir Makei underlined that the world is rapidly developing and the speed of globalization is so high that the mankind fails to keep up with it. Such situation brings about political, economic and social problems. According to Vladimir Makei, there is a need to introduce new mechanisms which would be attuned to the new world order. If such order is not created the mankind could face the absence of global rule.

Vladimir Makei suggested strengthening a state’s role as one of the mechanisms of such global order. In this respect he noted that sanctions against states are inadmissible.

Vladimir Makei urged to work out an agenda concerning the post-2015 development based on the sustainable development goals such as migration, energy and employment. According to the Foreign Minister, the attainment of these goals should be based on global partnerships akin to the Global Partnership against Slavery and Trafficking in Human Beings initiated by Belarus. Vladimir Makei called on the international community to work to the benefit of the entire humankind.

On the same day Vladimir Makei met with Thongloun Sisoulith, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, to discuss the Belarusian-Lao cooperation.
