Raman Yakauleuski: Noose tightening on Lukashenka

Hockey is not the only reason for the Belarusian ruler's sudden visit to Sochi.

Political observer Raman Yakaulesuki spoke to charter97.org about Lukashenka's visit to Sochi.

“It's not just a sporting meeting. It looks interesting that it coincided with the first tranche of the Russian loan. The tranche was transfered and Lukashenka arrived [in Sochi] at the same time. Nothing was announced. He appears in Sochi and other places to meet with Putin in recent times as unexpectedly as western leaders fly, for example, to Iraq and Afghanistan,” the observer said.

Raman Yakauleuski is confident that selling of Belarusian enterprises to Russia was discussed during the meeting. As never before, Putin wants actions instead of words for the 2-million loan, the first tranche of which was already transferred.

“They discussed it on the ice and on the bench. The noose is obviously tightening on Lukashenka. We'll see clear steps that Russia will buy MAZ, the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant and other plants. The proof is the order on irregular working hours for government members, who work days and nights on the projects to privatise enterprises with the involvement of Russian capital. So, it would be wrong to think that hockey was the only reason for Lukashenka's visit to Sochi. As some Russian observers note, Lukashenka's sudden arrival in Sochi reminded fulfilling Putin's 'Heel!' command,” the political observer underscored.

Lukashenka and his youngest son Kolia visited Sochi in the first days of the year. It's interesting that the Russian president firstly shook hands with the son of the Belarusian ruler and then with his father, who was also offering his hand. Participants of the friendly match, including Lukashenka, had to wait for the Russian president on the players' bench.

Putin was the last player to leave the locker room. He began to greet other players with a handshake. Aliaksandr Lukashenka said as the Russian president approached him: “Colonel Putin reports!” And added a second later: “Like a general”.
