Ales Marachkin: Work must go on daily, not during electoral campaign only

Participating in municipal elections is pointless.

The famous Belarusian artist, the head of the Pahonia artist union, member of the organizational committee of the Belarusian Movement party Ales Marachkin made the point in an interview to the charter97.org web-site.

“I think that we do not have elections at all: neither municipal, nor parliamentary or moreover presidential. I have a feeling that our society is somewhat dreamy, and I do not even know how to wake it up. Of course, we will get out of this situation, but we will not play the games suggested by the authorities. I will not participate in the municipal elections”, - he pointed out.

The artist also does not agree to the opinion that contacts with population during the electoral campaign are a strong political instrument.

“We have been listening to this prayer for almost 20 years, saying that elections should not be ignored, because they are a reason for agitation, meetings and propaganda of democratic ideas, but nothing of that works. So what? Yes, work must be done. Not only within the campaigns, but daily”, - Ales Marachkin emphasized.

We would remind that in March this year municipal elections will take place in Belarus. Some of the representatives of the opposition claimed they would participate in the electoral campaign, saying that the elections are a chance to have a signature collection campaign, agitation campaign and meetings with people.
