Belarus to reduce number of customs clearance bodies on its border

Customs bodies of Belarus will fulfill certain functions earlier performed by the Transport Inspectorate of the Ministry of Transport and Communications at border checkpoints.

The Transport Inspectorate will continue performing its functions inside the country. The corresponding decree “Concerning amendments and additions to a number of decrees of the President of the Republic of Belarus” was signed by the head of state.

The document was worked out in line with the instruction of the President to reduce the number of customs clearance bodies on the border and to optimize their functions.

Due to the transfer of responsibilities certain legal documents regulating international road transportation (automobile control) and observance of weight and size limitations will be amended. Apart from that, workers of customs bodies will have the right to draw up protocols on administrative violations, such as non-compliance with international road transportation regulations and abuse of weight and size limitations.

The decree helps avoid ambiguity in the interpretation of legal regulations and streamlines the collection of payments.

The number of customs clearance bodies on the border will be reduced. Road toll payments and payments for letting heavy-weight and big vehicles use public roads will be collected inside the country, which will facilitate passenger and goods traffic and bolster Belarus’ transit potential.
