Kaliakin, Liabedzka, Yanukevich want to Minsk city council

The politicians want to be elected to the Minsk city council.

Head of the United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka and head of BPF party Aliaksei Yanukevich submitted documents for registration of their initiative groups. Both plan to run in the elections to the Minsk city council and want to collect signatures of voters.

The party leaders said it to Radio Svaboda.

Siarhei Kaliakin, the leader of the Fair World party, also wants to run in the elections in Minsk. He will be nominated by the party, so he doesn't need voters' signatures for registration.

Anatol Liabedzka said his initiative group would collect signatures in several constituencies, which is allowed by the Electoral Code:

“One of them includes the district of Komarovsky Market. I took this decision after the incident on January 12. I will have groups in the Tsentralny and Savetski districts. We submitted documents for registration of my initiative group, but we haven't received an answer yet.”

Aliaksei Yanukevich said he would run in the Chyzhouka district, where he lives. Siarhei Kaliakin chose the Savetski district, where he worked for a long time.

January 16 is the deadline for filing documents to register initiative groups of potential candidates. Answers are expected to be sent within five days after submitting the documents.

The local “elections” are scheduled for March 23.
