Case of Zakharanka’s kidnapping prolonged for three months

The Investigatory Committee again prolonged the investigation of the case of the politician’s disappearance.

The information came to the charter97.org web-site from the head of the Legal Assistance to Citizens organization, former prosecutor office’s investigator Aleh Vouchak.

“As usual, a paper came from the Investigatory Committee, from the investigator Jury Varauka, saying that the investigation would be prolonged for three months, and the outcomes would be reported. Thus, literally nine months remain until the end of the investigation. As it ends, the case’s materials will be available”, - the human rights activist said.

We would remind that general Jury Zakharanka disappeared without a trace on 7 May 1999. According to the official version that took place in the evening in Zhukouskaha Street area in Minsk as he was kidnapped by unidentified people with the use of violence and taken by a car to an unknown direction. The criminal case on the disappearance of the former Interior Minister was only started on 17 September 1999. The witnesses of the kidnapping, who were found not by investigatory agencies, but a public commission searching for the disappeared general, claim that Zakharanka was violently taken away by several men.
