Dinamo Minsk come back to claim SO win over Severstal

Dinamo Minsk come back to claim SO win over Severstal

Dinamo Minsk captain Alexei Kalyuzhny scored the deciding shootout goal and earned an assist in a 2-1 win against Severstal Cherepovets at Minsk Arena on 23 January.

Dmitry Milchakov did a superb job for his team producing a handful of spectacular saves throughout the match.

The guests’ goal on the 16th minute of the opening period was cancelled by Andrei Stas on powerplay early in the third. Minskers had several more chances to take a lead and delight the 8,100 home crowd, but the tight-checking hockey did not allow many shots on goal. The tie in regulation forced overtime. Five minutes of 4-on-4 action hockey could not settle the game and opened the ice for a shootout in which Alexei Kalyuzhny and Dmitry Milchakov claimed the victory for the home team.

With 46 points after 47 games the Belarusian club remains the last in the West. The ongoing home series will also include games against Atlant Moscow Region on 25 January and SKA Saint Petersburg on 27 January. Dinamo Minsk will wrap up their homestand with a game against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl on 29 January. The January action will be followed by an Olympic break until 26 February.
