Dozens sent to hospital after 40-car pileup north of Montreal

Quebec police say three people are critically injured and four are seriously injured after a 40-car pileup near Ste-Adele, Que. caused by treacherous driving conditions.

Another 25 people suffered minor injuries.The pileup occurred on Highway 15 in Quebec’s Laurentian region. Sgt. Gino Pare who is at the scene, said a stretch of the highway could be closed until 5 p.m. because of the large number of vehicles involved in the crash, ctvnews.ca reports.

In a separate incident at around noon, a transport truck jackknifed on Highway 15 north in Laval, Que. Police closed all northbound lanes in the area.

Environment Canada issued a blowing snow warning on Monday, covering the area from Montreal to Quebec City. Temperatures are hovering around -7 C in the Montreal area.

Many highways in southern Quebec are closed, and emergency crews said they used “extreme measures” to get drivers out of their vehicles following the pileup on Highway 15, which occurred at around 11:00 a.m.Quebec provincial police say three people are critically injured and four are seriously injured after a 40-car pileup near Ste-Adele, Que., caused by treacherous driving conditions.

A stretch of Highway 20 near Levis, a suburb of Quebec City, was also closed due to a 20-car pileup. Part of the same highway near Saint Nicholas was also closed due to an another large multiple-vehicle collision.
