Euromaidan expects Yanukovych's resignation and amnesty for political prisoners (Video, online)

73

A special session of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada continues today.

Protesters in Kyiv's centre continue to strengthen barricades and patrol the territory in spite of a certain progress in the negotiation process between the authorities and opposition. Defence units can be seen near the barricades despite a temperature of -15 °C.

The centre has been remaining calm for the last few days. Both protesters and the police stopped fighting and shooting. Observers and the protesters say it's a truce for a period of talks between the opposition leaders and representatives of the authorities.

After a round of negotiations yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada repealed the laws restricting freedoms and constitution rights of citizens that had been adopted on January 16 in violation of procedural rules. As many as 361 MPs voted to scrap the laws. The opposition leaders called the concessions half-measures. They insist on an amnesty for all political prisoners, the resignation of the Ukrainian president, the return of the 2004 Constitution and holding an early election.
