Mikhail Zhyznieuski buried with eight-hour delay

In the evening on 28 January in the cemetery in the village Znamia Truda near Homiel the funeral of Mikhail Zhyznieuski took place.

The coffin with the body of the Belarusian, killed in Kiev, was delivered to the burial site with almost an eight-hour delay – at 19.45. As the father of the perished explained, this was caused by difficult weather conditions on the way, delay at the border and security measures taken by Zhyznieuski’s Ukrainian friends in order to avoid being followed by security services. Apart from that it was difficult to make documents in Kiev for taking the body out of the country, BelaPAN reports.

The activist’s father doubts that the authorities will find the guilty of the murder. He presumes that it was a sniper who killed his son.

The funeral was attended also by Zhyznieuski’s mother and sister, representatives of civil society and political parties, who came with Ukrainian and white-red-white flags, and also journalists of non-state media. The requiem was served by a famous Orthodox priest Leanid Akalovich. Before being buried the coffin was covered with a white-red-white flag.

Mikalaj Zhyznieuski, who would have turned 26 on 26 January, was killed by a shot in the heart on 22 January at a barricade in Hrushevskoho Street in Kiev.
