Ukrainians thank Belarusians for solidarity

Ukrainian pro-EU protesters held a flash mob on New Year’s Eve.

Participants of the performance “Ukraine says thank you to the world” expressed their gratitude in more than ten languages for supporting their struggle for a better future.

They took pictures of themselves near posters with the words of gratitude. The photos were posted by culturologist Vladyslava Osmak on Facebook.

“Dear friends! We, Ukrainians, would like to express our sincere gratitude for your support in our struggle for freedom and human dignity. We wish you all a peaceful and fulfilling New Year!” the posters read in Belarusian, Russian, Greek, English, Polish and other languages.

Mass protests for European integration began in Kyiv and Ukrainian regions on November 21 after the government had refused to sign an Association Agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius. The authorities made several attempts to forcefully disperse the protests, but people have been remaining in Kyiv’s centre for the second month.
