Yury Rubtsou appeals against court’s sentence

Today a cassation appeal has been lodged to the court.

The Homel-based activist told that to charter97.org. He expressed gratitude to his lawyer, “Viasna” human rights centre, a human rights activist from Homel Leanid Sudalenka, journalists and all concerned citizens.

“To the cassation appeal we attached remarks on the transcript of a court session, as it had been fabricated, in spite of the fact that it had been an open trial. Words of many participants of the trial were omitted in the transcript, though these words could have been used in my support. This fabrication once again proves indirectly, that lies and distortion of reality is a norm for the Belarusian court system. And as such fabrications are ventured even during open trials, what could be said about trials behind the closed doors? There is no court system in the country,” he said.

We remind that on October 6 Yury Rubtsou was sentenced to 1.5 years in a correctional labour facility, for alleged “insulting the judge”. The real reason of the punishment was the phrase on his T-shirt: “Lukashenka, resign!” even now Belarusian human rights activists call the activist from Homel a new political prisoner.
