Jacek Saryusz-Wolski: Further talks with Putin are impossible

European leaders made sure that Putin is not going to implement the agreements over the Ukrainian conflict.

Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, a Polish MEP and EP's Rapporteur on Ukraine, said it in an interview with Polskie Radio.

According to him, the behaviour of the Russian president during the Europe-Asia summit in Milan was “a total disregard”. “The European leaders, who met with Vladimir Putin, realise that it is impossible to have further talks with such a person. I think that the opinion that sanctions against Russia should not be lifted becomes stronger,” the Polish politician said.

The talks over Ukraine's future were held in Milan with the participation of representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Germany, France and Italy. Jacek Saryusz-Wolski thinks the fact that Poland didn't participated in the talks means that “we are not as important as we would like”.

“This is a combination by Russia that doesn't want to see us at the negotiating table, Ukraine that didn't spoke up for us, and Berlin and Paris that didn't want us to participate in the talks at all. This is a big crack in the Weimar Triangle,” he said.

Jacek Saryusz-Wolski thinks the parliamentary election in Ukraine scheduled for Sunday will have a very important meaning from the point of view of democracy development in the country. “There will be a new composition, new people, a new generation. The new Verkhovna Rada will carry out reforms and move in the European direction,” the MEP says. Saryusz-Wolski expects the election in Ukraine to comply with the international standards.
