Total boss killed in plane crash in Moscow

The head of one of the world’s largest oil companies has died in a plane crash at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport.

Russian news agency RIA Novosti has reported it.

Christophe de Margerie, the chief executive of French oil giant Total died when his Falcon private jet crashed on takeoff in the early hours on Tuesday, Moscow Interregional Transport Investigation Directorate of Russia spokesperson Tatyana Morozova told journalists.

According to initial accident findings, the oil executive’s jet collided with a snow plow, the driver of which was drunk. The three crew members on the plane died together with de Margerie.

The snow plow driver could face a prison sentence of up to seven years if he is found to be to blame for the crash.
