Prosecutor’s office defends policemen-violators

The prosecutor’s office of Salihorsk district has considered a complaint of an activist Uladzimir Shyla against actions of policemen.

The complaint was created after a so-called inspection in his private house was held, “Viasna” human rights centre’s website informs.

During investigation of the complaint, Prosecutor of the district Aleh Audzej didn’t found reasons for taking responsive measures by the prosecutor. It has been established that inspection of the house of the oppositionist, who is well-known in Salihorsk district, was held on the grounds of a decree, issued by the operations officer on drugs control and counteraction to human trafficking, and had been sanctioned by the prosecutor.

The denial of the policemen to give to Uladzimir Shyla a copy of the protocol of inspection with the list of computer equipment seized from his house, was explained by the prosecutor by the absence of the relevant norm in the Code of Criminal Procedure, the report reads.

The activist himself calls this situation absurd. The search has been held, equipment has been seized by the policemen, and the activist does not have documents confirming that. In this situation, as well as in the case of inspection and seizure of property of a young activist Uladzimir Lemesh, Shyla cannot be sure about preservation of his personal things. It is not excluded that some documents or objects which had not been seized from him, could appear on the protocol, human rights activists stress.
