Rosselkhoznadzor found ASF in Belarusian sausages

Russia's state veterinary and phytosanitary service (Rosselkhoznadzor) has registered a genome of the African swine fever (ASF) in a lot of sausages from Belarus.

Such a statement has been made by the department of the service in Bryansk region.

“Experts of the veterinary service of Bryansk region have found ASF genome in 3 samples of meat products manufactured by “Orsha meat processing and canning factory”, Belarus,” the message reads.

At the moment the infected lot is stored by Rosselkhoznadzor, inspectors are to find out how the genome could get into the ready products.

African swine fever is a highly contagious virus disease of swine. It is not dangerous for humans, however it is incurable in animals and causes death of the infected animals. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, in 2014 three active outbreaks have been registered among domestic pigs in Russia, and 50 among wild boars.
