Internal Affairs Ministry wants to make officials tell on superiors

Civil servants will be obliged to inform law-enforcing agencies about attempts of their superiors to persuade them into corruption crimes.

Such a statement has been made by Belarusian Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich.

As said by him, it is impossible to defeat corruption in the country by the forces of law-enforcers only. For this reason the public debate on the problem has been initiated. Besides, the Interior Affairs Ministry itself, which detects about 80% of corruption crimes in the country, puts forward its initiatives.

As said by Ihar Shunevich, the primary task faces by the ministry today is to form a zero tolerance of citizens towards corruption. And a special prominence is given to corruption in the economy of the country related to activities of state-owned enterprises.

As stated by the Interior Minister, very often they record facts when a superior official insists that his subordinate should sign deals with certain economic entities. Such recommendations are followed as a rule, though the executor sees that they are sure to lose out on the deal. Ihar Shunevich believes that looking forward it would be sensible to make such actual doers to inform law-enforcing agencies about attempts to draw them into committing corruption crimes.
