Plant administration “didn't notice” workers' hunger strike in Babruisk

Workers continue to defend their right to reinstatement.

The workers, who were dismissed from the plant of tractor parts and units in Babruisk, say plant director Aliaksandr Ahranovich takes revenge on them for their membership in the Free Trade Union. The trade union activists thank all people who supported them during the hunger strike. They say they will continue to struggle, Radio Svaboda reports.

Participants of the hunger strike Mikalai Zhybul, Aliaksandr Hramyka, Aleh Shauchenka and Aliaksandr Varankin released a statement to thank all those who supported them. The members of the Free Trade Union note they stopped the hunger strike, but will continue struggling for their rights using all means possible.

“There were no hunger strikes at the plant,” the director told journalists. He refused to explain why he thinks so.

The official reason for firing the activists from the plant of tractor parts and units was the expiration of their employment agreementz. The workers say the real reason was their membership in the Free Trade Union.

The launched a hunger strike to attract the attention of public and officials to the outrageous situation at the plant. They also want to be reinstated at work.

The activists say they attracted public attention, but were not reinstated. According to them, head of the city executive committee Andrei Kavalenka had an opportunity to become a “fair and responsible executive official”, but he took into account only the position of the plant administration.
