Lukashenka supports Putin: Your problems are our problems

The dictator wants to work with Russia “in a concerted manner”.

Lukashenka said it today at a meeting with Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, BelTA reports.

“The situation around our borders, around the Union State of Belarus and Russia has been a matter of concern recently. We cannot agree with the activities pursued by Western nations at the western borders of our Union State. We cannot agree with the tendency for a worsening situation in Ukraine, not only in the regions of Donbas and Donetsk but the entire Ukraine,” the Belarusian ruler said.

“We hoped a lot that after the elections the situation would advance in a better direction, in the direction of stability. Unfortunately, we don't see it,” he said.

Lukashenka thinks the situation around Belarus is closely related to Russia. “The problems are indivisible: our problems are your problems, too while your problems are our problems,” he noted. “Those include pressure on Belarus, which does not leave the Russian Federation indifferent, and naturally there is the pressure on the Russian Federation, which has enough problems as it is.”

“Therefore, this tangle of problems, which are evolving around us, primarily those concerning the ministries of foreign affairs, weighs heavily upon the situation in Belarus and naturally in Russia. They cannot but be a concern for us,” Lukashenka stressed.

He said he would like Belarus and Russia to discuss the matter and come to “a unified stance so that the two countries could work in a concerted manner”. “The problem does exist and it has to be dealt with,” he said, emphasising the importance of meetings in Minsk to work out action guidelines.

Speaking about the bilateral Belarusian-Russian relations, Lukashenka said the countries didn't have big problems. “We are starting the new year virtually without problems in our relations, even minor ones. We have come to terms on all the matters,” he said. He thinks if all ministries and government bodies of the two sides worked as the ministries of foreign affairs and defence do, the two states would not have any problems.

Lukashenka said words of support to president of Russia Vladimir Putin. “I see his schedule has been very busy, primarily in the difficult region in the East, both in terms of stamina and distance,” the Belarusian ruler said. He asked to convey his good wishes to Russia's prime minister Dmitry Medvedev.
