Minsk dwellers freezing in queues to buy cheap parkas

52

A sale of consumer goods is held in the Palace of Arts in Minsk is a great success.

In order to get into the trade pavilion, dwellers of the capital of Belarus line up, open.by informs.

The success of the stock fair near the Palace of Arts inspired representatives of the light industry of Belarus to hold a new exhibition and sale of goods. Rather low prices are announced, and on the opening day long queues lined up near the stalls. As for today, the boom is observed at the trade fair as well, and it is to work a week more. One has to stand in a queue to get into the trade pavilion, where garments and knitwear are sold at a price which is almost one half as high as in shops.

The parkas’ trade is especially brisk. Women’s jackets, which are of not really stylish cuts, but which are light and of a good quality, cost Br400,000, and men’s cost Br300,000 each. Customers are mostly women of a pension age. Some of them take even two parkas, for oneself and a friend. There is a crowd in front of the only mirror in the corner. “Why are you scrutinizing this jacket, as if it costs a million?!” one buyer is hurrying along another one. An elegant woman’s coat costs a million here, but it is more expensive in shops. A very short woman laments the fact that she wanted to buy exactly the same, but none of them fits her.

A heap of multicoloured knitted hats is scattered on a table, they cost Br50,000 each, children’s and adults’ regardless of a size. There are rather nice models among them. Scarfs cost Br70,000 each, no matter winter or summer ones. Men’s sweatshirts go for 90,000, sweaters 150,000, jeans from 100,000 to 150,000. These prices are really low.

Warm socks are a big seller, a pair goes for 20,000, two pairs – 30,000, and 3 pairs – 50,000. Some people are counting aloud, that it is cheaper to buy two pairs three times than three pairs two times. People in the queue are laughing.

In addition to the clothes of big sizes, bed linen, pillows and blankets are popular. Swan’s-down pillows cost 130,000, bamboo fiber pillows - 90,000. A plaid could be bought at 100,000, and they go in different colours. Those who love cheapness can even buy decanted French perfume, and one can choose a bottle of any size for them.

The fair is open until November 26.
