Liabedzka produced ultimatum

According to the Political Council of the United Civic Party of Belarus there are no candidates for presidency but Statkevich and Liabedzka.

On November 25 the Political Council of the United Civic Party of Belarus held the meeting. The main issue was the presidential campaign and the perspectives for Congress of democratic powers. Anatol Liabedzka spoke out before everyone about his presidential ambitions and produced ultimatum to other political parties, reports ucpb.org.

“We passed the position by almost solid voice (one abstained in the vote) that the scenario for presidential election campaign was the main issue, but not the procedures, stated Anatol Liabedzka to the party site. We decided that the Party would follow the scenario made up of two parts.

The first part concerns the forming of initiative group on registration by candidate for presidency Mikalai Statkevich and fixing the effort to register it. This is our message to active part of Belarusian society: the country needs fair and free elections and there should not be political prisoners in the country. The second part touches upon changes in economic sphere, so-called positive economic alternative. This is the message for the people, who think that the authorities cannot organize the effective economic functioning and functioning in social sphere as well as economics needs reforms. At the same time we will attempt to register a democratic candidate”.

In the opinion of the members of the Political Council, today there are no candidates for presidency but Mikalai Statkevich and Anatol Liabedzka, the leader of the United Civic Party (UCP). This is a reason why the Political Council considers the UCP’s representative as a candidate and makes efforts to register him. Furthermore, the party reserves the right to leave this company at any moment.

“This involvement will be made up of a few points, which the authorities should strictly obey, explained Anatol Liabedzka. We reserve the right both to run the campaign till the very end and to leave it at any moment. Also we have made a decision to hold consultations under the basis of “Talaka” and to form a solidary position in relation to the procedure of a single candidate-selection process”.
