Minsk “Torpedo”’s chairman: Number one problem of Belarusian football is police

Policemen persecute fans because of writings or tattoos with “Pahonya”.

The chairman of Minsk “Torpedo” Andrei Salangin in an interview to “Pressball” named the number one problem of Belarusian football. It is police. Its officers often prevent fans from watching the match of their favourite team because of usual words on their T-shirts, tattoos with the national coat of arms, sometimes even flags officially entered to the register, are not allowed to be brought to the stadium.

“I observed how you had talks with the police. Their tone wasn’t always pleasant.

The number one problem for Belarusian football is police. Its officers find all kinds of reasons for various prohibitions. Even when flags brought to the stadium are on the register of the sanctioned ones, they are banned all the same. They find fault with tattoos, writings on the clothes. The reasons are laughable. For instance, they say: this flag looks like a fascist one, there is a cross there like a cross on German tanks. Or: there is too much aggression on this T-shirt, and there was just a picture of a rock band. They would not allow you entering if you have a tattoo with Pahonya coat of arms on your hand, and if you try to find a middle ground, they say: do you see a paddy wagon? Do you want to be imprisoned for 15 days? If one puts on a T-shirt with the word “Ultras”, it’ll be called a fascist one,” he said.

We remind that the latest clash between policemen and football fans took place last week in Navapolatsk during a football match between the local team “Naftan” and “Dinamo-Minsk”.
