EU summit to consider new sanctions against Russia

The EU is ready to slap new sanctions against Russia if necessary.

Such a stipulation is contained in the draft resolution of the EU summit, as referred to by EUobserver. The preliminary text of the document was approved by ambassadors of the EU countries on December 8, “Ukrainskaya Pravda” informs.

“The European Council is ready to take further measures if necessary,” the draft resolution concerning the sanctions against Russia reads. “The situation in Eastern Ukraine continues to cause serious concern, and the EU insistently urges the both sides to realize the ceasefire agreement of September 5.”

Besides, the decision includes the clause that the EU countries plan to extend limitations on investments in Crimea economy since December 15, three days before the EU summit.

The leaders of the EU countries are also set to declare that they are ready to further assist and support Ukraine in the process of reforms.

We remind that earlier Poland’s Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz stated that the EU should be ready for the third round of sanctions against Russia.
