Workers of woodworking plant on strike in Barysau

They demand to pay their wages according to payrolls received by them.

Praca-by.info was informed about that by the chairman of Minsk regional branch of the REP Trade Union (the Belarusian trade union of radio-electronic industry), Mikalai Pakhabau.

- A worker of one of the shops of Barysau woodworking plant called me yesterday. She is a member of our trade union. She told that people were given payrolls, and wages indicated there are about 4 mln, while they received 600,000 rubles each. The administration says that they had failed to discharge the task, and that there are holidays in Russia now. Workers announced a strike, – Mikalai Pakhabau told.

The journalist of the news outlet tried to check the information with the plant management, but his phone calls were not answered by the office of the director.

As it turned out later, workers of the shop of lumber processing announced a stay-in strike in connection with the extremely low wages in November. On November 11 they attended work, but didn’t start work.

We remind that in 2012 during his visit to Borisovdrev the Belarusian dictator ordered to ban dismissal of workers until modernization and reconstruction of all wood processing enterprises finished.

As a result, decree #9 was adopted. It was called “On additional measures for development of wood processing industry.” According to the decree, a worker is banned from quitting from the plant without permission of a manager. The denial of the employer to break the labour contract could be challenged in the office of the chairman of the regional executive committee. In this connection workers of these plants, in addition to the ordinary wages, are to receive additional monthly payments. An enterprise is to set the sum itself, proceeding from its financial capabilities. In case workers violate their labour duties, and those fired for some violations, are to return the entire sum of monthly payments.

As it is noted in the decree, in case these payments are not returned by former workers, these sums are to be collected after a court decision from the new wages of the worker at a new working place. Persons which do not have new labour contracts, are to be employed to the previous place of work, and the earlier paid sums are to be held back from their wages.
