Michael McFaul: Russia's elite is in panic, Medvedev waits for removing from office

A former United States ambassador to Moscow finds the reshuffle in the Government of the Russian Federation possible in the coming weeks.

"I think he (Putin) may think about changing his government. I think that may be the surprise move you might see in the coming days or weeks", McFaul stated.

According to the former Ambassador, in the face of the collapse of the Russian economy, Russian President cannot afford inaction. "Maintaining the status quo would not be favorable”, Mcfaul said.

The diplomat noted that he got a sense of panic among economic elites, and it made Putin more cautious.
