Ukrainian MFA: South Stream failure is sign of Europe's recovery

Europe has a chance to stop Russia's attempts to manipulate the EU policy.

It was said by spokesman for the Ukrainian MFA Yevhen Perebyinis.

“The failure of South Stream is a sign of Europe's recovery from its dependence on Russian gas and a chance to get rid of side effects – Russia's attempts to manipulate the European policy,” he wrote on Twitter.

On December 1, president of Russia Vladimir Putin said the South Stream gas pipeline project was closed. “If Europe does not want to implement the project, it would be ridiculous to invest millions of dollars in it,” he said.

South Stream was supposed to deliver Russian gas to Europe through Turkey bypassing Ukraine. The pipeline construction was suspended after Russia began the aggression against Ukraine.
