Vasily Parfyankou left Belarus

The former political prisoner Vasily Parfyankou, who was put under preventive supervision in Belarus, left for Ukraine on December 19.

BelaPAN was informed about that by the deputy chairman of Alternativa public association Illya Dabratvor.

As said by him, Vasily Parfyankou does not plan to return to Belarus.

It should be noted that the wife of the former political prisoner and their 11-month baby stay in Lviv region. In 20122 Parfyankou was convicted in the framework of the criminal case on mass riots in Minsk on December 19, 2010. He was sentenced to 4 years of deprivation of freedom in a maximum security penal colony, but in August of the same year the convict was released after the pardon by a presidential decree. After that the former political prisoner many times was subject to persecution by the regime, which was viewed by human rights activists as a revenge of the authorities and an attempt of pressure on public activists.

Parfyankou was placed under arrest on December 5, 2013 while the verdict was announced on charges relating Article 421 of the Criminal Code (failure to follow the rules of the preventive supervision). He was sentenced to a year of imprisonment with serving the sentence in the conditions of maximum security. For the last several months Parfyankou was placed in a solitary confinement. The activist was released on December 5, the year of preventive supervision was given to him while he was still in the colony in Horki.
