Information Minister asked mass media to ease Belarusians’ anxiety

A meeting of Belarus’ information minister with editors of state-run and independent mass media has taken place.

It was dedicated to the situation in the financial sector. Liliya Ananich, Information Minister, informed about the latest moves and priorities of the state policy at this stage. She told that the government and the National Bank are implementing the necessary measures in order to keep the situation under control in order to make the country “celebrate the New Year peacefully,” “Nasha Niva” writes.

She promised that the state structures would inform about all the future moves in this sphere in detail. In her turn, she asked mass media to cover the situation in a balanced way, “taking into account the national interests of the country.”

After that a heated, and sometimes violent dispute on the issues of mutual interest was taking place. The discussion went beyond the topic proposed by the minister. Issues of the amedments to the law on mass media were touched upon. For example, the editor of “Nasha Niva” brought up the question about the future of Lohvinau shop.

Responsible executives of the ministry took part in the meeting. Except the editor-in-chief of “Nasha Niva”, mass media were represented by Iosof Syaredzich from “Narodnaya Volya”, Yury Zisser and Maryna Zolatava from TUT.by portal, Iryna Leushyna from BelaPAN agency, editors-in-chief of Belarusy i rynok, Argumenty I fakty, Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belarusi, Interfax agency, Ezhednevnik website. Presence of the head of Russia Today agency and Yandex.by portal was noteworthy. A representative of Mail.ru had been invited as well, however he could not come.
