KGB about spy detained in Lithuania: No comment

The citizen of Lithuania had been recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Belarusian Armed Forces’ General Staff of Belarus.

The State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus is not ready to comment on the reports of Lithuanian media about the detained paramedic of the Lithuanian Army, who had been spying for Belarus and who is to stand trial soon.

“We decline to comment,” Interfax-Zapad agency was told by the spokesperson of the KGB Artur Strekh.

As it was reported with a reference to the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office, on January 24 a dweller of Kaunas, serving in the army, was detained and incarcerated. He was a paramedic, and he is charged with spying against Lithuania on a mission from Belarus.

The press-release of the Prosecutor General’s Office notes that the Lithuanian national had been recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Belarusian Armed Forces’ General Staff of Belarus.

According to the agency, for 5 years he had been passing information to Belarus and received money for that.
