Russian FSB imposes passport control on Belarusian border

The passport control was strengthened for a period of the Olympic Games.

The news was spread by the border service of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

“Imposing passport control for citizens of Belarus coming to Russia is explained with security measures during the Sochi Olympics,” Nasha Niva newspaper quotes FSB.

Belarusians earlier reported about the increased border control. In particular, Aliaksandr Pashkevich from Minsk wrote about it on Facebook. He crossed the Belarusian-Russian border on a bus before the Olympic Games.

“I have often crossed the Belarusian-Russian border for the past year. Today is the first time when I've met passport control. Two men in uniform checked passports of all passengers of the bus (they even said something about migration cards). It's interesting to know if our border becomes less transparent due to the Olympic Games or it's because something goes wrong in the Belarusian-Russian relations,” he wrote.

The author of the post underlined that passports were checked by Russian border guards. He didn't face control on his way back.
