Dashkevich may be left under supervision

A court decides today whether the former political prisoner should remain under preventive supervision.

Zmitser Dashkevich says a corrections officer called him yesterday night and informed about a court hearing on violations of the preventive supervisions, Radio Svaboda reports.

The former political prisoner was put under supervision for 6 months. The term expires on February 28. The co-head of Young Front says he cannot attend the hearing because he is busy with work.

Zmitser Dashkeivch was released from prison No. 1 in Hrodna on August 28, 2013, after three years of imprisonment. He was arrested on December 18, 2010, ahead of the latest presidential elections. He was convicted for “malicious hooliganism” and then for “persistent failure to obey orders of prison officers”. Zmitser Dashkeivch should remain under supervision for six months after the release. He cannot leave home from 20:00 to 6:00.

On November 6, Zmitser Dashkevich was detained as Young Front members were collecting signatures to return Lenin Street its historical name, Frantsyskanskaya Street. He was sentenced to to three days in custody for failure to obey policemen's instructions. Zmitser Dashkevich didn't admit his guilt and said the police report against him was falsified. He regarded the actions by the authorities as the ongoing crackdown on dissidents.

On December 5, Dashkevich was warned that the term of the supervision could be extended if he continued resisting police officers. The second violation of the supervision rules (part 2 of article 24.12 of the Code of Administrative Offences) is punished with a fine of up to 50 penalty units or a term in custody.

Minsk's Pershamaiski district court fined Zmitser Dashkevich 10 penalty units (1,300,000 rubles) on January 30 for violating the supervision rules.
