Authorities want to take away Babruisk brewery from Heineken

Deputy PM Mikhail Rusy gave instructions to figure out reasons for the brewery's loss-making performance within a week.

The official took part in a meeting of the regional executive committee to discuss the results of the economic performance of the region in 2013, BelTA news agency reports.

Mikhail Rusy was surprised to learn that such a big and famous company was working in the red in Belarus for the past few years. “Under economic laws, such companies should either be closed or sell their assets to more successful companies. If it doesn't happen, it means Heineken has another source of income,” Mikhail Rusy thinks.

The deputy PM gave a week to look into the issue. “If the company doesn't have profits and doesn't pay taxes to the budget, it's not normal, especially for such a famous brand as Heineken,” Mikhail Rusy thinks.

Piotr Rudnik, the chair of the Mahilou regional executive committee, suggested obliging all companies and organisations of the region to reach a return on sales of at least 10-15%.
