Dzmitry Dashkievich: They want to isolate me before IHWC

Young Front’s cochairman is convinced that the ruler will not release political prisoners in the nearest time.

Dzmitry Dashkievich expressed such an opinion as he commented for the charter97.org web-site on his preventive supervision getting prolonged for three months.

“The prolongation of the preventive supervision for three months is, of course, linked to the Ice Hockey World Championship that will be held in Belarus. It is very important for the Lukashenka regime to earn as many political points as possible on this event. For the sake of that they would first of all take under control any expressions of civic and political activities, in order that no one brought up and spoke of their problems in the society, among which the first is political prisoners. Nevertheless, I claim that me personally and Young Front activists plan on holding solidarity actions and a number of events, the purpose of which will be to spread the information among Belarusian public and those foreign guests, who would come for the championship, about the repressions of the regime against the citizens of our country”, - the former political prisoner pointed out.

The politician is convinced that Lukashenka will not release political prisoners before the sporting event.

“It would be to the benefit of the authorities and may be one or two will be released. But the Lukashenka regime has never been rational. It is irrational, it is unchangeable, and in principle it stands on this inability to change, but on the other hand this inadequacy will put an end to the regime. It is impossible for Lukashenka to release all the political prisoners, because by this he will have to recognize that people were put in jail on no grounds and purely for the reason that he wanted revenge and to physically destroy his opponents, who challenged him in 2010”, - Dzmitry Dashkievich emphasized.

We would remind that today the court of Minsk’s Piershamajski district has prolonged preventive supervision over Young Front’s cochairman for three months.

On 28 August Dzmitry Dashkievich was released from the prison number 1 on Hrodna after a nearly three-year term in prison. He was arrested on the eve of the latest presidential elections on 18 December 2010 and at first convicted for “especially malicious hooliganism”, and then was sentenced to one more year behind bars for “malicious insubordination to penitentiary administration’s requirements”.
