Domracheva, Tsuper, Skardino presented with medals

On 15 February Belarusian best biathlete Darya Domracheva was awarded her second gold medal of the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

When asked whether she is going to beat the record of German biathlete Kati Wilhelm who claimed three golds at the Winter Olympics, Darya Domracheva said: “Why not? As for my strength and ability, let us take a new start and see.”

Darya Domracheva confessed that she had been even happier to learn about aerial skier Alla Tsuper’s success.

“We saw Alla Tsuper claiming the gold on TV and it was amazing. I noticed then that she had the same starting number as I did and thought that it was something unbelievable. At this very moment we understood that Belarusian girls are the best ones. It was really a Belarusian day,” Darya Domracheva said.

“I will do my best to prepare for my next start. I would not like to say anything about this event being my favorite. I just love biathlon and take up every event with great pleasure,” Darya Domracheva added.

Nadezhda Skardino, the Winter Games bronze medalist, received her first Olympic award on 15 February.

“You feel tremendous when your dreams come true,” Nadezhda Skardino said. Leaving the medal ceremony she threw her bouquet of flowers into the audience.

Nadezhda Skardino holds the world’s record in shooting accuracy at official biathlon competitions. She cleaned 22 shooting ranges in row.

2014 Olympic champion Alla Tsuper (aerial skiing) could not hold back tears at the medal ceremony on 15 February.

“I could not sleep yesterday. When I was closing my eyes, I saw the competitions and jumps. Today in the morning I still have not felt that I am an Olympic champion. When I received the award I finally realized that I actually did it,” Alla Tsuper said.

She stressed once again that it had taken her long 22 years to take the award and she was very happy she could do it.
