Belarusian’s appeal to new Ukraine

Belarusian’s appeal to new Ukraine

Don’t betray us.

I ask future leaders of the new Ukraine to stay faithful to the ideas of freedom and democracy that the people of Ukraine have been fighting for, so selflessly, in the bloodshed, losing their sons.

All these long four months of the Ukrainian resistance we, Belarusians, have been supporting you with all our heart. We have been standing by your side at Maidan, we have joined self-defense units, we have been spreading the truth about your revolution in Belarus and the rest of the world, we have been shot dead…

We admire your heroic and selfless fight, we pray for you and we believe in your final victory. We do hope that your leaders that will come to the power will avoid the mistake of 2005.

Back then, during the Orange revolution, Belarusians also supported your fight. Thousands of us were standing at Maidan. But when Viktor Yushchenko became president, he turned into a lobbyist of dictator Lukashenka’s interests in Europe, despite our expectations of reciprocal solidarity with the Belarusian people.

In exchange for his services, Yushchenko demanded that the border should be ratified, the soviet “debt” prescribed and Ukrainian goods get preferences at the Belarusian market. But the rascality of the Ukrainian regime spiced with the Ukrainian society’s silence and refusal to notice the fact that their democratic leader was hobnobbing with the neighbor dictator has led to Yanukovich’s revanche in Ukraine, amongst other things.

The Belarusian dictatorship, basically ignored by Western politicians, is contaminating the entire region like a virus. Lukashenka’s crimes are unpunished, Europe’s sanctions are weak and meaningless, European officials’ attempts to find agreement with a madman who is spilling blood of his people are countless. And it all creates monsters like Yanukovich.

During these difficult months you have felt how crucial international solidarity is. The whole world has been breathing together with Ukraine – not just presidents, politicians, rights advocates and Hollywood starts, but even common people spent sleepless nights watching the fight.

We mourn every death on the way to your Freedom. Happiness for your victories fills our hearts.

And I do hope that when Yulia Tymoshenko is released, she won’t sign any new “agreement” with Lukashenka, simply because of solidarity with the Belarusian political prisoners who are being tortured in jails.

I do hope that Vitaly Klichko who so selflessly led the fight of his life at Maidan, will not bend to shake the hand of the Belarusian tyrant.

I do hope that Piotr Poroshenko that I have recently met in Vilnius will not give up his solidarity with the Belarusian opposition for benefits from Roshen chocolates sales in dictator’s Belarus.

I do hope that Arseny Yatseniuk will see possibilities for Ukraine in free Belarus.

I do believe that Ukrainian leaders will not be fooled by the idea that some eurobureaucrats are feeding us with today: help Lukashenka to break him up with Putin. Today all European money is used to pay OMON, “squadron of death” and KGB.

Today when I was speaking with Vitaly Portnikov on the phone he told me: “You can be sure that the events in Ukraine will affect the whole region. Changes will definitely come to Belarus.”

I, too, believe so, just like Belarusian Mikhail Zhiznievsky who diead at Euromaidan believe it.

Belarusians who are prepared to die for Ukraine will win victory for their country. But don’t betray us again, and don’t leave us in our loneliness.

Our fight goes on.

Glory to Ukraine! Long Live Belarus! For your and our freedom!
