Investigators refuse to close criminal case against Mikhalevich

The Investigation Committee refused to close the case against former political prisoner Ales Mikhalevich.

The ex-candidate in the 2010 presidential elections wrote it on Facebook.

“I remain the last person involved in the case of the 2010 post-election protests. I continue to file complaints to show that I consider myself not guilty. This time I asked to give me grounds for refusal to close the criminal case in accordance with the criminal and procedure code. I received another formal reply: you return home and we will make a decision,” he wrote.

Ales Mikhalevich, as most other presidential candidates, was detained on the night of December 20, 2010. A month later, he was released from the KGB pre-trial jail on his own recognizance. The politician called a press conference and said about torture in the jail. He left Belarus secretly in March and received political asylum in the Czech Republic some weeks later. Mikhalevich was detained several times abroad as a person on the Interpol wanted list. The opposition politician received an official notice in late July 2012 that he had been removed from the Interpol database.
