Pensioner, who was beaten for national flag, to be tried

The case of Viktar Sharshun of Minsk will be heard in the Tsentralny district court on March 3.

However, the court won't consider the illegal actions of police officers, Viasna human rights centre reports.

Under the police report, Viktar Sharshun is accused of violating article 23.4 (refusal to obey police officers) and article 23.5 of the Code of Administrative Offences (insulting police officers).

Judge Valery Yesman will also hear a complaint of Sharshun, who didn't agree with administrative proceedings against him. Sharshun sent the complaint about the illegal actions of police officers to a prosecutor's office and asked to bring them to justice, but the complaint was resent to the court.

The prosecutors also say the part of the pensioner's complaint relating to the illegal actions of officers of the Tsentralny district police department was sent to the Investigation Committee.

Viktar Sahrshun was beaten by policemen two weeks ago for hanging a white-red-white flag on his balcony.
