Anatol Liabedzka awaiting trial

March 7, Chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka was summoned to the Savetski District Police Department of Minsk to give explanations concerning the rally of solidarity with Ukraine.

Police officer Bely took explanations from Mr. Liabedzka. The letter stated that the speaker of the United Civil Party Artur Finkevich had filed an appeal for the action, and an appropriate entry was put in the register of the authorities. At the same time, the police insist they have no information about it. Haven't questioned Mr. Finkevich, they immediately issued charges to Anatol Liabedzka. After giving him a writ to appear in court at 10 a.m. on March 12, they released the politician.

Mr. Liabedzka thinks that this situation is connected to the tough message of the United Civil Party

to the authorities. “In fact, all pickets with my participation – be it in Hrodna, Brest or Minsk, are punished by law-enforcement agencies,” said the politician.

“During my stay at the Savetski DPD, its Deputy Chair Neviarouski asked why we had held a street action with posters in support of the Ukraine, whereas others who stood in the square were talking about some holes on the road, etc. As an example he cited the "Tell the Truth" and "Belaya Rus". He said that there were no problems with these organizations, unlike the United Civil Party. Then we talked about Germany in the times of Adolf Hitler, the law and Constitution. That's why there is a positive moment – that I held a prophylactic talk with the police. Now I'm waiting for the trial."
