Domracheva wins IBU World Cup mass start

Darya Domracheva of Belarus, the 2014 Sochi three-time Olympic champion, dominated Pokljuka’s E.ON IBU World Cup mass start to finish first in 36:16.4 with two penalties on 9 March.

Kaisa Makarainen also with two penalties finished 22.2 seconds back in second. Russia's Olga Zaitseva finished third, 35.9 seconds back with one penalty.

Sochi Olympic bronze medalist Nadezhda Skardino of Belarus crossed the finish line 7th, 1:27.5 back with two penalties. Lyudmila Kalinchik of Belarus finished 10th, 1:41.6 back, with two penalties as well.

Belarus bagged two medals (gold and bronze) at the first World Cup leg after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Kaisa Makarainen now tops the World Cup standings with 601 points. Second goes Tora Berger of Norway with 587 points. Darya Domracheva is third, 571 points.

Yevgeny Abramenko is the best in the Belarusian men’s biathlon national team, going 57th in the overall standings with 51 points. Martin Fourcade of France leads the men's World Cup total score with 660 points and is followed by Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway (485 points) and Austria’s Dominik Landertinger (462 points).

E.ON IBU World Cup 8 will be held in Kontiolahti, Finland on 13-16 March.
