Belarusian spies detained in Poland

The Internal Security Agency of Poland has arrested two Belarusian nationals suspected of espionage for Russia.

The Special Services Committee had a special meeting yesterday. MPs gathered not in the parliament, but in the headquarters of the military intelligence service. They heard a report about the arrest of “Belarusian spies”. The committee members declined to give any comments after the meeting, which was held behind closed doors, Gazeta Wyborcza writes.

“The mechanism seems to be as following: The Military Intelligence Service learnt from its sources in Belarus or Russia about these persons and passed the information to Poland,” a former officer of the military special services explains.

If so, the arrest must have been carried out by the Internal Security Agency, which was done. The agency's spokesman, lieutenant colonel Maciej Karczyński advises to contact the Appeal Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw for details.

The Polish special services are reported to have detained the persons suspected of espionage more than a week ago. The details are kept secret.
