Russia gets excluded from G8

G8 countries have suspended Russia’s membership in the organization.

France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius reported on Tuesday of the decision of the group to suspend Russia’s membership in the organization.

“As to the G8, the political forum for a dialogue of major states, we have taken the decision to suspend Russia’s membership”, - Fabius said on air of French radio Erop-1, Interfax reports.

At the same time he added that “today in the evening all the seven major states will get together, but without Russia”. He did not specify the details and the place of the meeting.

According to the minister, “the invitation for Russia’s president to visit France on 6 June currently remains in force”. On 6 June France will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the allies’ landing in Normandy.
