EU to extend blacklist of Russian politicians

Other measures aimed at isolating Russia will be considered at a summit in Brussels.

Today's summit may extend a blacklist of Russian politicians subject to travel bans and asset freezes, gazeta.ua reports with a link to The Guardian.

However, the summit is unlikely to take the measures that could spiral into a trade war between the EU and Russia, the newspaper writes.

According to a senior EU official, the EU reserves the right to impose trade or economic sanctions, but the trigger for this will be Russian "escalation and destabilisation" in Ukraine.

The EU is expected to cancel a meeting of Russian and EU leaders scheduled for Sochi in June and to consider other measures aimed at isolating Russia politically and internationally.
