Belarus will not introduce visa regime with Ukraine

Belarus’ MFA is not planning on initiating changes in the procedure of crossing Belarusian border for Ukrainian citizens.

“As to visa issues, Belarus’ MFA is acting in the light of directions on simplifying visa regimes that came from the head of the state in his address to the parliament and Belarusian people. We have already taken a number of specific steps in that direction. The Belarusian party does not intend to move in the opposite direction”, - the head of the information department, press-secretary of the MFA of Belarus Dzmitry Mironchyk claimed on Thursday at a briefing in Minsk, Interfax reports.

He emphasized that Belarus’ MFA will provide consular assistance to Belarusian citizens in Ukraine and the Crimea, if necessary.

“We aim to provide maximum consular assistance to our citizens. A citizen of Belarus can always address the nearest consular department”, - Mironchyk pointed out as he answered the journalists’ question on whether the country’s Foreign Ministry was planning on providing assistance to Belarusian citizens in the Crimea on the issues of marriage, family visits and others.

As it was reported earlier, on Wednesday after a National Security and Defense Council’s meeting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was tasked with introducing a visa regime with the Russian Federation. Later Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated that they should not rush into introducing a visa regime with Russia.
